The museum inside out
More than four years after the announcement of the collaboration of Rijksmuseum Twenthe and De Museumfabriek, an initial assessment can be made. A lot has been accomplished. For both Roombeek museums, the past period has been dominated by optimal use of the opportunities offered by the new collaboration. But if one thing became clear at the end of 2020, despite the success, it was that the transformation of both museums was far from finished and that a new transformation plan for the period 2021-2024 was needed.
In recent years, and especially in 2020 (the year in which the pandemic struck), the employees of the Roombeek museums have devised and elaborated a number of ambitious renewal plans. If you look closely at those plans, you can see a pattern. At least that’s how it was for us. All plans briefly described in the transformation plan aim to turn the museums ‘inside out’. Sometimes programmatically. Often literally.
