• Een museum dat wil weten waarvoor het er is en hoe het dat waarmaakt naar publiek, politiek en partners. Ik help de vraag scherp te stellen en het antwoord omzetten in een houdbare koers.
• Een instelling die iets nieuws wil opbouwen: een nieuwe organisatie, een nieuwe samenwerking, een nieuwe richting. Ik werk als kwartiermaker — van eerste idee tot werkende praktijk, tot het zonder mij verder kan.
• Een directeur of raad van toezicht die wil sparren over strategie, over keuzes, over wat er intern niet meer gezegd wordt. Gewoon een gesprekspartner die de sector kent en geen belang heeft bij het antwoord.

Wat het betekent als een museum vastloopt, ken ik van binnenuit. Als net aangetreden directeur van een museum dat op de nominatie stond voor sluiting, als kwartiermaker van instellingen die zichzelf opnieuw moesten uitvinden, als adviseur van organisaties die zagen dat er iets moest veranderen maar niet wisten wat. Dat inzicht leidde tot mijn podcast De Museoloog en tot mijn nieuwste boek De kunst van het wankelen.

That might look like this:

• A museum that wants to understand what it stands for — and how to make that real for its public, its funders and its partners. I help sharpen the question and turn the answer into a course of action that holds.
• An institution that wants to build something new: a new organization, a new partnership, a new direction. I come in at the beginning and stay until it works on its own.
• A director or supervisory board that wants to think through strategy, through difficult choices, or through what has stopped being said out loud. A thinking partner who knows the sector and has no stake in the answer.

I know from the inside what it means when a museum gets stuck. I’ve been a newly appointed director of an institution facing closure, the person brought in to help organizations reinvent themselves, an advisor to institutions that knew something had to change but couldn’t see what. That experience led to my podcast De Museoloog and to my latest book, The Art of Wavering.
