Kwartiermaker voor een nieuw nationaal Onderzoeksplatform en Innovatiefonds voor Archeologie (2023-2024). Nadat de Nederlandse regering 25 jaar geleden het verdrag van Malta ratificeerde is de opgravingspraktijk voor de archeologie gewijzigd. Een nieuw commercieel bestel heeft de archeologie diepgaand geprofessionaliseerd. Maar er zijn ook serieuze aandachtspunten aan het licht gekomen die de regering nu met een landelijk onderzoeksplatform en innovatiefonds wil herstellen.
Rijksmuseum Twenthe (2012-2022) Directeur-bestuurder. Ingrijpende reorganisatie en herpositionering van dit museum voor oude en moderne kunst als het Museum van de Verbeelding. Realisatie van grote tentoonstellingen over de Italiaanse hoog-renaissance, de Vlaamse primitieven, de Vlaamse barok, William Turner, Thomas Gainsborough, Paula Modersohn-Becker, Artemisia Gentileschi, Sofonisba Anguissola e.v.a. De programmering van hedendaagse kunst is een ode aan de spelende mens, met onder meer Jaap Drupsteen, Bart Hess, Atte Jongstra, Anne Wenzel, Peter Zegveld en Carlijn Kingma.
De Museumfabriek (2016-2022) Directeur-bestuurder. Acht jaar na de opening van Museum TwentseWelle in 2008 komt dit hybride museum in grote problemen. Het museum was een fusie van een textielindustriemuseum, een natuurmuseum en een cultuurhistorische collectie. De fusie was feitelijk nooit voltooid. Vanaf 2016 gaat het museum door in nauwe samenwerking met Rijksmuseum Twenthe; met een nieuw formule en vanaf 2018 onder de naam De Museumfabriek. De Museumfabriek is het museum waar het draait om de samenhang tussen natuur en cultuur, kunst en technologie, heden, verleden en toekomst. Een wetenschapsmuseum nieuwe stijl.

Batavialand, erfgoedpark der Lage Landen, Lelystad (2011-2013) Kwartiermaker. Drie erfgoedinstellingen aan de kust van Lelystad (Nieuw Land Erfgoedcentrum, Bataviawerf en RCE, afd. scheepsarcheologie) zoeken samenwerking. Arnoud Odding adviseert; schrijft het concept voor een groot nieuw erfgoedpark en werkt als kwartiermaker de plannen verder uit.
Theater Instituut Nederland – TIN (2011-2012). Advies, concept en projectleiding. Het TIN wil vanaf 2013 een doorstart maken als Theatermuseum. Arnoud Odding schrijft het innovatieve concept. Het nieuwe museum koppelt de thema’s van vandaag aan ons luisterrijke theaterverleden. Als proeve van bekwaamheid duikt het Theatermuseum voorjaar 2012 op in Den Haag met de tentoonstelling ‘Wie is de nar?’ Wie is die ongrijpbare figuur die ‘speelde’ met de machthebbers van weleer en die hen een spiegel voorhield? Wie zijn de narren van vandaag? Wie spelen er nu met de macht? Of is het allemaal slechts theater?
Nationaal Glasmuseum Leerdam (2004-2011) Directie. Tevens planvorming en realisatie van een transformatieplan voor het nieuwe Glasmuseum, inclusief de fusie met de Glasblazerij Leerdam, alsmede de renovatie en uitbreiding van het museum. Het museum is heropend in juni 2010. Het Nationaal Glasmuseum, nu op twee locaties, heeft zich in zes jaar tijd ontwikkeld tot digitaal kenniscentrum, experimenteel glaslab en fysieke schatkamer.
Stichting Fort Asperen (2008) – Gastcurator tentoonstelling “Dichter op de huid” in de zomer van 2008 in Fort Asperen. “Dichter op de huid” was een verkenning van de vele betekenissen van de huid. Een beeldende en een beschrijvende studie, op de raakvlakken van fysica, sociologie, filosofie, economie, beeldende kunst, vormgeving en poëzie. I.s.m. Tiziana Nespoli.
Natura Artis Magistra (2004-2006) – In het vervolg op het project om het voormalig Zoölogisch Museum van Artis nieuw leven in te blazen vroeg de directie van Artis of Arnoud Odding adviseur en projectleider wilde worden voor het complete vernieuwingsplan dat de dierentuin wilde opstellen. Het plan met een totale investeringsopdracht van € 80 miljoen is in 2006 afgerond en wordt nu gefaseerd ten uitvoer gebracht.
Artis / Zoölogisch Museum Amsterdam (2002-2003) – Advies en projectleiding van de planontwikkeling t.b.v. de restauratie en herinrichting van het Zoölogisch Museum van Artis met gebruikmaking van de oorspronkelijke collectie en het originele interieur uit 1855.
Projectbureau Zuidas Amsterdam / Stichting Virtueel Museum Zuidas (2001-2006) – Onder de noemer ‘Virtueel Museum Zuidas’ wordt sinds het voorjaar van 2001 gewerkt aan de realisatie van een bijzonder ambitieus kunstprogramma voor de Zuidas. Lid van de uitvoerende programmaraad Beeldende Kunst met als taak kunst te integreren met de gehele architectonische en stedenbouwkundige ontwikkeling van dit nieuwe Amsterdamse stadscentrum.
Museum Het Catharina Gasthuis te Gouda (2000-2002) – ‘Het Geheim van Gouda, de grootste tekeningen ter wereld’. Advies en integraal projectmanagement van de eerste omvangrijke tentoonstelling van de werk-tekeningen (cartons) van de beroemde glas in lood-ramen in de St Janskerk te Gouda.
Stichting Glas Amsterdam 2002 (2000-2002) – Concept en projectdirectie van de eerste Europese conferentie van de Glass Art Society (gevestigd te Seattle) met 1.400 deelnemers uit 20 verschillende landen. Tevens publieksmanifestatie met ondermeer omvangrijke tentoonstelling in het Haags Gemeentemuseum.
Stichting Eternally Yours (1993-2004) – Onderzoek naar de verlenging van de culturele levensduur van produkten. Sinds november 1995 bestuurslid, adviseur en projectleider van de gelijknamige stichting. In 1997 en 2003 zijn internationale studiecongressen georganiseerd. In 1997 en in 2004 zijn handboeken voor ontwerpers gepubliceerd.
Landelijk Gevangenismuseum Veenhuizen (1999-2001) – Integrale ontwikkeling Landelijk Gevangenismuseum Veenhuizen. Inclusief advies, inhoudelijk concept, inrichtingsvoorstellen, promotieplan, fondsen-wervingsplan en exploitatie-opzet, i.s.m. Roskam Produkties.
Frans Halsmuseum / Koninklijk Museum Schone Kunsten Antwerpen (1997-2001) – ‘Kinderen op hun mooist’. Extern en integraal projectmanagement van een grote overzichts-tentoonstelling van kinderportretten van 1500 tot 1700. Met 80.000 bezoekers in Haarlem en 70.000 in Antwerpen was dit de grootste in Haarlem geproduceerde tentoonstelling ooit.
Stichting Nederland Wereldtentoonstellingen (1999-2000) – Advies en ontwerpbegeleiding van diverse interieurs in het Nederlandse paviljoen. Ingericht als ‘showcase’ van de jongste Nederlandse vormgeving, i.s.m. Nederlands Vormgevingsinstituut.
Stichting 750 jaar Den Haag (1995-1998) – In 1998 bestond Den Haag 750 jaar. Sinds het voorjaar van 1995 was Odding bij de voorbereidingen van dit jubileum betrokken, eerst als inhoudelijk programmaleider en sinds het voorjaar van 1997, samen met Albert Roskam, als algemeen coördinator. Uiteindelijk bestond het jubileumprogramma uit 253 officiële jubileumprojecten, georganiseerd door meer dan 425 instellingen, ondersteund door 350 sponsors en 110 subsidiënten.

Quartermaster for a new National Research Platform and Innovation Fund for Archaeology (2023-2024). After the Dutch government ratified the Malta Convention 25 years ago, the excavation practice for archaeology has changed dramatically. A new commercial regime has profoundly professionalised archaeology. But new areas of concern have come to light which the government now wants to remedy with a new national research platform and innovation fund.
Rijksmuseum Twenthe (2012-2022) General director. Significant reorganization and repositioning of this national museum for old, modern and contemporary art as the Museum of Imagination. Realization of major exhibitions on the Italian High Renaissance, the Netherlandish Renaissance, the Flemish Baroque, William Turner, Thomas Gainsborough, Paula Modersohn-Becker, Artemisia Gentileschi, Sofonisba Anguissola and many others. The programming of contemporary art is an ode to the Homo Ludens, including Jaap Drupsteen, Bart Hess, Atte Jongstra, Anne Wenzel, Peter Zegveld and Carlijn Kingma.
De Museumfabriek (2016-2022) General director. Eight years after the opening of Museum TwentseWelle in 2008, this hybrid museum was running into major problems. Three heritage institutions on the coast of Lelystad (Nieuw Land Erfgoedcentrum, Bataviawerf and the Cultural Heritage Agency of the Netherlands, dept. naval archeology) are looking to collaborate. Arnoud Odding advises; writes the concept for a large new heritage park and develops the plans further as a quartermaster.
Theater Institute Netherlands – TIN (2011-2012). Consultancy, concept and project management. TIN wants to make a new start as a Theater Museum from 2013. Arnoud Odding writes the innovative concept. The new museum links today’s themes to our glorious theater past. As a test of competence, the Theater Museum turned up in The Hague in the spring of 2012 with the exhibition ‘Who is the jester?’ Who is that elusive figure who ‘played’ with the rulers of yesteryear and who held up a mirror to them? Who are today’s jesters? Who’s playing with power now? Or is it all just theatre?
National Glass Museum, Leerdam (2004-2011) General director. Planning and realization of a transformation plan for the new Glass Museum, including the merger with the glassworks Glasblazerij Leerdam, as well as the renovation and expansion of the museum. The museum reopened in June 2010. The National Glass Museum, now at two locations, has developed in six years into a digital knowledge centre, experimental glass lab and physical treasure house.
Fort Asperen Foundation (2008) – Guest curator of the exhibition Skin Deep [Dichter op de huid] in the summer of 2008 in Fort Asperen. Skin Deep was an exploration of the many meanings of skin. A visual and a descriptive study, on the interfaces of physics, sociology, philosophy, economics, visual arts, design and poetry. In collaboration with Tiziana Nespoli.
Natura Artis Magistra (2004-2006) – In the follow-up to the project to revive the former Zoological Museum of Artis, the management of Artis asked Arnoud Odding to become an advisor and project manager for the complete renewal plan that the zoo wanted to draw up. The plan, with a total investment order of € 80 million, was completed in 2006 and has been implemented in phases until 2022.
Artis / Zoological Museum Amsterdam (2002-2003) – Advice and project management of the development plan for the restoration and redevelopment of the Zoological Museum of Artis using the original collection and the original interior from 1855.
Amsterdam Zuidas Project Bureau / Stichting Virtueel Museum Zuidas (2001-2006) – Since the spring of 2001, work has been underway on the realization of a particularly ambitious art program for the Zuidas under the name Virtual Museum Zuidas. Museum Het Catharina Gasthuis, Gouda (2000-2002) – The Secret of Gouda, the largest drawings in the world. Advice and integral project management of the first extensive exhibition of the drawings (cartons) for the famous Renaissance stained glass windows in the St Janskerk in Gouda.
Amsterdam Glass Foundation 2002 (2000-2002) – Concept and project management of the first European conference of the Glass Art Society (based in Seattle) with 1,400 participants from 20 different countries. Also many public events with, among other things, an extensive exhibition in the Art Museum in The Hague.
Eternally Yours Foundation (1993-2004) – Research into extending the cultural lifespan of products. Since November 1995 board member, advisor and project manager of the foundation of the same name. International study conferences were organized in 1997 and 2003. Handbooks for designers were published in 1997 and 2004.
National Prison Museum Veenhuizen (1999-2001) – Integral development National Prison Museum Veenhuizen. Including advice, concept, design proposals, promotion plan, fundraising plan and business plan, in collaboration with Roskam Productions.
Frans Halsmuseum / Royal Museum of Fine Arts Antwerp (1997-2001) – Pride and Joy. External and integral project management of a large overview exhibition of children’s portraits in The Netherlands from 1500 to 1700. With 80,000 visitors in Haarlem and 70,000 in Antwerp, this was the largest exhibition ever produced in Haarlem until then.
World Exhibitions Foundation Netherlands (1999-2000) – Advice and design supervision of various interiors in the Dutch pavilion at he World Exhibition in Hannover. Furnished as a ‘showcase’ of the latest Dutch design, in collaboration with the Dutch Design Institute.
Foundation 750 years The Hague (1995-1998) – In 1998 The Hague celebrated its 750th anniversary. Since the spring of 1995 Arnoud Odding has been involved in the preparations for this jubilee, first as artistic programmer and since the spring of 1997, together with Albert Roskam, as general coordinator. Ultimately, the jubilee program consisted of 253 official jubilee projects, organized by more than 425 institutions, supported by 350 sponsors and 110 foundations.
